If you’ve followed my blog or are already familiar with PCM, you know that the different PCM Personality Types speak a different “language”. In PCM, we call this their “Perceptions” – how they see and experiment the world, which, in its turn, influence the way they speak and the vocabulary they prefer to use.
Remember, we all have the Six Personality Types in us, in different orders and with different intensity, so we’re most probably going to be more or less “fluent” in several “languages”.
I initially posted this on LinkedIn and Facebook and, given the nice comments and interactions it attracted, I thought I might share it here too :).
So, let’s get down to business:
The Thinker Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Thoughts and focuses on logic, data, facts and information. So, they might thell you something like: “It simply doesn’t make sense. There are so many studies showing the negative effects of smoking: they include cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, and diabetes. Think about it! Be smart!”
The Persister Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Opinions and focuses on values, trust, loyalty, character, respect. So, they might thell you something like: “You should value your health more. It’s not normal to do something that hurts you in the long term. If you believe your life and your family are important, then it doesn’t matter how hard it is to quit smoking. Show me you’re the person I trust and whose character I respect!”
The Harmoniser Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Emotions and focuses on compassion, relationships, friends and family, expressing feelings. So, they might thell you something like: “I care about you and I want you to be well. It makes me sad knowing that you are risking your health. I feel that quitting smoking is a pledge of self-care and self-love. I am here if you need help or you’re feeling down.”
The Imaginer Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Inactions/Reflections and focuses on imagination, visualisation, “what ifs”. So, they might thell you something like: “What it would be like if you’d stopped smoking? I’ve been reflecting on this and I can already see it: you’d have more energy, you’d be healthier, and you’d save some money. I’m imagining it won’t be easy, but try and see for yourself how good it would be…”
The Rebel Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Reactions (Likes and Dislikes) and focuses on humour, fun, jokes, spontaneous reactions, jargon. So, they might thell you something like: “Duuude! Quit that smoking s%£t! I hate that smell! Let me tell ya the last joke: Smokers are great people to go camping with. You can easily outrun them if a bear attacks!”
The Promoter Personality Type in all of us speaks the “language” of Actions and focuses on initiatives, results, getting stuff done and they love a good challenge. So, they might thell you something like: “I have a challenge for you: let’s see who’s quitting smoking faster. I bet you €500 I’ll do it faster. The bottom line is: who stops smoking first wins! Let’s get started!”
Here they are in their original format too 🙂
